    Housing Information
    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) gives active service members two options for housing; living on post or finding a home off-post within the community.

    • All relocating soldiers must first contact the Military Personnel Branch  (210) 916-7398/6864 once orders are received. They can answer all of your housing questions and assist with In-Processing procedures.

    Brooke Army Medical Center On Post Housing

    • All Single and Unaccompanied Soldiers will need to check in with their 1st Sgt. located in Building 3642 during regular hours, or Building 3631C, OKUBO with the Staff Duty NCO on weekends and holidays.

    • On-post housing is not available at Brooke Army Medical Center, but may be availble at Joint Base Sam-Houston. Contact Lincoln Military Housing (210) 270-7638 to ask about their requirements, process and availablity for your rank and family size.

    The cities near this installation are San Antonio, Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, Windcrest, Live Oak, Hollywood Park, Helotes, Leon Valley, St Hedwig, Converse, Universal City, Balcones Heights, and Hill Country Village. San Antonio is a highly populated and physically large, spread out city with a population of over 1.3 million. It is often called "Military City" due to the large number of military installations in the area. The average commute to post is about 20-25 minutes. San Antonio is located in the southern, central part of Texas, just about 1 hour 15 minutes south of Austin and 3 hours west of Houston. Because San Antonio is so large, the city is often broken up into geographical regions and referred to as Southside or East Side, etc. Though it would mean a slightly longer commute, there are several smaller communities outside city limits where families can find housing, including New Braunfels, Floresville, Seguin, and Boerne.

    About the Installation
    Brooke Army Medical Center is a teaching hospital located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital offers over 450 beds and medical services that include surgical care, pediatric and adult care, and a 24-hour emergency department. BAMC is the only Level 1 trauma center in MEDCOM. In 2005, Brooke Army Medical Center joined with Wilford Medical Center to become the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
